Find the Right Iowa Records Office

Iowa Recent Arrests is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody or has been released, pull or change an official record, or retrieve a booking photo. We cannot post bond or act for a sheriff, jail, court, or corrections agency. Use the county directory to identify the right local source, then ask that office to confirm its current information.

Choose the Iowa Records Custodian

Iowa has no one statewide sheriff or jail office for county bookings. Start with the county where the arrest and booking occurred, then use the agency that made or holds the record. Iowa Code Chapter 22 generally lets the public request government records, subject to exceptions; the Iowa Public Information Board's records guidance explains how to frame a request. Ask the custodian for a segregable copy, any expected cost or delay, and the legal basis for material it withholds.

  • County arrest, booking entry, or photo: choose the county in the County Directory. Its sheriff or jail is the place to ask about a local roster, a specific booking record, a photo, and the custodian's request steps.
  • Iowa State Patrol or DPS report: use the DPS Public Information Officers and open-records page. DPS lists openrecords@dps.state.ia.us for electronic requests. A patrol release is selective news, not a live county booking list.
  • State prison or supervision record: search the Iowa DOC Offender Search for a public custody or supervision profile. For a DOC-held record, use the department's open-records request route. DOC data is distinct from a county booking record.
  • Custody event notifications: check or register through IowaVINE. It covers connected county-jail and Iowa DOC custody events, but a fresh booking may not appear at once.
  • Court case or disposition: use Iowa Courts Online for public docket information. It is not a complete statewide active-warrant search, and a docket is not a jail roster.
  • Federal custody: check the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for federal prison custody or the ICE detainee locator for ICE custody. These systems do not cover Iowa county bookings.
